We’ve seen too much of our precious landscape and farmland being destroyed for gravel pits, urban sprawl and strip malls.  When will it stop?

We are facing the reality of a climate crisis and massive biodiversity loss – only to watch leaders make the same decisions that brought us here in the first place.  Time is not on our side.

Subdivisions keep popping up all over that can’t meet people’s basic needs, aren’t affordable for our seniors and young people, and force us to drive to get anywhere.  We need sustainable communities.

We keep being told that things can’t change and that doing differently is not possible.

It’s not true.

Things can change if we are to fully confront our environmental realities and demand a better future for ourselves.

But the rules have to change.

These are the rules that make it easy to pave over an old growth forest.  The rules that allow water pollution and groundwater destruction so we can pave over more of our green spaces and farmland.

We believe a bigger Greenbelt is a rule changer and part of a natural solution to climate change.

A larger Greenbelt:

– increases protection for the ecosystem services that clean our air and water,

– provides habitat for wildlife

– gives us recreational opportunities to spend time with our families.

– values natural areas and prime farmland instead of sprawl

– ensures our communities develop in ways that promote healthy and active lifestyles that reduce pollution.

It’s time to change the rules in favour of nature, in favour of climate, in favour of healthy communities, in favour of a livable planet.
